ORGANIZATION: BELMONT TROLLEY INCORPORATED

Belmont Trolley Barn and City Market
This is a rendering of the car barn concept we would like to build in downtown Belmont and use the structure to house our historic streetcar and host private and community events.

Our organization is seeking volunteers to help with the restoration of our historic trolley and looking for volunteers who would like to help with our capital campaign to fund construction of a car barn to house our historic trolley. We aim to seek support from corporations and individuals in the Charlotte metro region whose giving aligns with our mission, so the campaign will be very targeted with very little "cold-calling" to solicit support for our project. There will be opportunities to also volunteer at smaller events to sell donor engraved bricks and other activities to supplement the larger corporate campaign.

About BELMONT TROLLEY INCORPORATED

Location:

Mission Statement

Belmont Trolley is seeking to offer Belmont and the surrounding region a leisurely journey back in time on a historic trolley ride and to create a destination for families and history enthusiasts alike to come and experience a living, breathing trolley museum.

Description

Belmont Trolley is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and running historic streetcars. We are working with the City of Belmont and the North Carolina Department of Transportation to restore a set of historic railroad tracks that runs between downtown Belmont and Belmont Abbey College on which to run a historic trolley. We are aiming to be operational sometime in late 2018. To date, our organization has acquired and begun restoration on a beautiful trolley that was built circa 1912 and have worked with NCDOT to have the tracks restored sometime by the summer or fall of 2018. In addition to restoring the historic streetcar, we are in the process of beginning our capital campaign to build a trolley barn to house the car and serve as a museum to narrate the history of railroads in the Mecklenburg and Gaston County area. We hope to build out a larger operation over the next five to ten years where we would acquire, restore, display and run other cars that have a connection to the Southeast region. There are no other such museums currently in the Southeast.
