HI New Orleans Hostel is HI USA's newest hostel on Canal Street. We are seeking Travel Educator Volunteers to deliver HI USA travel educational classes.
HI USA has developed a series of great travel classes to provide travelers with the tools and confidence to get the most outof their travels, as well as help develop individuals into "caring world citizen."
Serving as a travel educator volunteer is an excellent way to share your love of travel, hone public speaking skills, and try out innovative marketing techniques. Past Travel Education classes have included: World Travel 101, Women Travelling Solo, European Travel on a Shoestring Budget, LGBTQ Travel, Southeast Asia on a Shoestring, and more.
Goals of Travel Education:
Introduce the concept of being "caring world citizens" to new and fellow travelers
Deliver meaningful and mission based educational programming
Help HI USA foster relationships throughout the local community
Share helpful travel insight with new and fellow travelers
Responsibilities/Duties:
Deliver World Travel 101 and/or other HI USA travel workshops
Familiarization with components of presentation(s) as designated by HI USA
Enrich workshop content with personal experiences and firsthand knowledge
Assist in program marketing, publicity and community outreach
Assist in identifying new audiences and venues for travel workshops
Supervision and Support Plan:
Participation in a Travel Educator training, which includes reviewing Travel Education Training Toolkit
Observation session(s) with staff or seasoned volunteers (if possible)
Support and mentoring provided by local HI USA volunteer liaison
Reports to designated HI USA volunteer liaison
Time Commitment:
Two to three hours per workshop (1-12 times a year, depending on volunteer availability)
Pre-workshop training session (2-3 hours)
Desired abilities, skills and qualifications:
Public speaking and presentation skills
Travel experience
Familiarity with hostels and hostelling preferred
Comfortable delivering presentations to a variety of audiences
