ORGANIZATION: The Virginia Zoo

The internship is with the Marketing Department of the Virginia Zoo and is approximately 20-30 hours per week for a six-week period. The marketing intern reports to the Marketing Manager. The Marketing Intern will assist the Marketing Department to develop and implement all marketing and public relations campaigns and also manage all social media, promotional and grassroots campaigns. This position is structured to provide a real-world educational experience and students can apply for credit with their department.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate newsletter content and assist with Zoo’s email marketing campaign
  • Generate blog content and assist with blog management
  • Produce photographs for social media marketing
  • Assist with the creation of video-based projects
  • Research and write content for Zoo’s website, press releases and other marketing collaterals
  • Assist in the creation of graphics for social media and or website use

Qualifications:

  • Recommended for Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Management Majors
  • Must possess working knowledge of Word, Excel, Mail Chimp and Wordpress. Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing
  • Be fluent and confident in social media management
  • Possess a creative eye for marketing photography
  • Have the ability to work independently
  • Be flexible, and self-motivated with exceptional time management skills
