Potter Park Zoo is Michigan's oldest zoo, located just minutes from Downtown Lansing and East Lansing. We are always looking for individuals interested in becoming a part of our Volunteer Team! With no minimum requirement of hours to stand in good standing, you can volunteer as much or as little as you'd like.

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities regularly available at the zoo:

Special Events

o Throughout the year, Potter Park Zoo hosts many private and public events including Boo at the Zoo and Wonderland of Lights. A wide variety of volunteers are needed for these, from greeters to craft assistants; face painters to storytellers; tickets takers to registration helpers, and many more!

Gardening/Grounds

o No matter what your gardening skills, we can use your help on our zoo grounds! Take on your own garden space, or simply help us weed and rake. You choose the task and your schedule.

Office/Clerical

o Our office staff sometimes need help preparing mailings, memberships or other clerical projects. If you can sort and shuffle, we can use your help!

All of our volunteers go through a Volunteer Orientation to make sure they feel confident and knowledgeable about our volunteer roles! After that, schedules are incredibly flexible. We understand many of our volunteers have jobs or other commitments, so there is no minimum amount of hours necessary to complete. We are just happy to have you as part of the team!

Interested in joining our wonderful team of volunteers? Visit our website at www.potterparkzoo.org/be-a-volunteer or send us an email at PPZVolunteer@ingham.org.

The mission of the Potter Park Zoological Society is to share our knowledge and love of the wild, by striving to teach each visitor to Potter Park Zoo and each participant in Zoo Society programs to take an educated delight in the ways of nature. Our hope is to inspire these individuals, young and old, to commit to the care of our creatures and to the preservation of their habitats and ours.
