Locations:
- The Salvation Army Garden Street Corps, Oakland
- The Salvation Army Hayward Corps, Hayward
- The Salvation Army Tri-Cities Corps, Newark
Hours:
Position target start date is in October and ends December 23 rd. Flexible to intern’s schedule, within: Monday through Saturday 9a.m. to 5p.m. Minimum of two days a week.
Position:
The purpose of this internship position is to assist with operations, logistics and supervision of the Christmas campaigns and social services, including teaming with the Kettle Coordinator to oversee the Red Kettle campaign, and coordinating the Angel Tree and Adopt a Family programs. Interns will gain comprehensive experience and insight into non-profit administration and fundraising.
Kettles:
- Along with the Kettle Coordinator, review the previous years’ program and plan adjustments that may enhance the program and income.
- Assist the Kettle Coordinator in recruiting kettle workers and volunteers, ensuring proper documentation is completed and submitted.
- Assist the Kettle Coordinator in training and equipping kettle workers.
- Assist with information management; specifically related to kettle performance and scheduling and donation tracking and reporting.
- If using an official vehicle, ensure inspection of assigned vehicle daily, that it is properly cleaned and mechanically maintained. Inspection report and mileage log must be maintained and submitted weekly to supervisor.
- Keep an accurate electronic record of kettle locations and contacts. Draft thank you letters for donors.
Adopt-a-Family & Angel Tree:
- Secure Angel Tree sites and Adopt a Family donors.
- Prepare Angel Tags for distribution to donors, ensuring they’re sent in a timely fashion.
- Arrange for Angel Tree donation drop off with the Toy Warehouse coordinator.
- Keep an electronic record of all donors.
- Communicate regularly and efficiently with donors.
- Ensure confidentiality of Adopt-a-Family donors and families.
- Efficiently pair Adopted families with donors, arranging for drop off by donors one day and pick up by families another.
- Ensure gifts donated by Adopters are sufficient for the family they’re assigned as well as appropriate for distribution by The Salvation Army.
- Keep an accurate electronic record of kettle locations and contacts. Draft thank you letters.
Knowledge, Skills and other Qualifications:
- Education requirements: High School diploma required
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid CA Driver’s License with good driving record.
- Physical Requirements: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
