PRERNA is a non-profit humanitarian organization that empowers refugees with opportunities to rebuild sustainable lives in the United States. We help refugees across all ethnicities and faiths become independent with continuum care. Our services include housing, supplies, healthcare, education, employment and cultural assimilation. We are located in Santa Clara County, California.
Description
PRERNA relies heavily on volunteers who donate their time and talent. To scale up the services and support we provide to refugee families, we are seeking an Education Lead to create and build a team to support the ongoing needs of all the refugee families with a very crucial role of helping them become sustainable with foundational education support and care.
Responsibilities
* Build and retain an education volunteer team to fulfill the different needs of adults, adolescents and children across the wide spectrum of educational skills
* Collaborate with PRERNA’s team leads effectively on requirements by planning and executing programs that meet refugee requirements in a timely manner
* Strategize with partners creatively, supplementing our educational efforts to support the refugees’ wide range of English speaking, reading and writing levels
* Help adult refugees learn basic conversational English to obtain employment as this is crucial to their overall well-being
* Advise refugees with strong English language skills on potential career transitional pathways through higher education for greater employment opportunities
* Encourage local native-born youth to connect with refugee youth as mentors to assist in their cultural assimilation
Qualifications
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously
* Highly motivated, strategic thinker, self-directed, tact and diplomatic skills
* Clear, courteous and professional manner when working with the public
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Ability to collaborate with PRERNA team leads, volunteers and partners

* Weekly meetings with team leaders and your volunteer team
* Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area; Can work virtually
* Flexible hours; Requires approximately 16-20 hours on a weekly basis
* Minimum volunteer assignment of six months
