Reach for Excellence is a multi-agency initiative to help children get onto a 3rd grade reading level before the end of 3rd grade. Volunteers will be trained to work one on one with students to help them to improve reading ability. Then go in during the school day to help students for a period of time to help students "catch up". Many children need help depending on how developed their vocabulary. Children younger than 7 years old need to hear 30 million words to become proficient readers. This program is to help children who have not gotten the sufficient amount of words to reach the level of their peers.
