Role: Volunteer Recruitment & Retention Coordinator (Intern)

Reports to: CEO

Objective:

As an integral part of the event management team, the Volunteer Recruitment & Retention Intern will strategically ensure that events are sufficiently staffed.

Description of Duties

  • Promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns (social media, volunteer match, texts to family/friends, etc.)
  • Attend event planning and walk through meetings
  • Ensure events have sufficient amount of volunteers, and relay relevant information from meetings to the remaining team.
  • Train team leads in preparation for events
  • Day of event: assist team leads with logistics, set ups, volunteer placements, etc
  • Post event: gather feedback from volunteers to improve future events and volunteer retention

Professional Requirements

  • There will be no monetary compensation, this is an internship position
  • Candidate must be committed to serving in this position for one full year
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Cheerful, outgoing personality and great telephone "presence"
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong people and customer service skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality


Training/Time Commitment

  • The Volunteer Recruitment & Retention Intern will train with the current manager.
  • Time commitment will vary depending on the week, month, and/or event day.

Education Requirements

  • College students or equivalent experience

Description

Rays of Light Philanthropic, Inc. (RLP) is a Non-Profit Organization that will provide basic needs items to low-income children & youth, specifically those that are homeless and living in foster care. In response to the growing number of foster care and displaced children and youth, December 13, 2008, Rays of Light Philanthropic hosted our first CHRISTmas "Be a Blessing" Gala at our home in Chatsworth, CA. In 2009 we applied for our Doing Business As (DBA) and began operating as a Sole Proprietorship. December 2013, we received our Non-Profit Status under section 501(c)(3). RLP is a corporation, owned and operated by Christopher and Elaine Ray.

RLP exists to improve the quality of life for underprivileged (specifically foster care and homeless) children and youth; with an emphasis on those that are in foster care and homeless. RLP specializes in the collection of basic needs items (i.e., clothing, undergarments, toiletries, backpacks, school supplies and toys) reducing the financial burden on the caregivers. We accomplish this goal hosting family-focused events that mobilize our community members. Our primary goal is to create awareness around the pervasive issue of foster care and homelessness among children and youth. Our secondary goal is educating our community on ways they can get involved and invest in the lives of children...our future.
