Bellevue Arts Museum is seeking an individual for an internship in the Education Department. This person would primarily assist in supporting the museum’s tour programs by scheduling tour groups, compiling information, coordinating with area schools, retirement homes, after school programs and other groups. This position is ideally suited for someone who communicates well, is reliable, detail oriented, friendly, and outgoing. It offers excellent experience for individuals interested in museum education, gallery tour programs, art, craft, and design, and museum studies. Days and times are flexible, but availability on most Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Fridays is preferred. Knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Outlook is a must. The internship offers excellent experience for individuals interested in docent programs, adult learning, informal education, museum studies, or arts administration.

This position is suited for a college student who is organized, detail-oriented, friendly, outgoing, and a clear communicator. Bellevue Arts Museum will work with students to provide educational opportunities that meet college requirements. We encourage interns to seek academic credit for their internship and will assist to help the intern receive it. Check with your advisor or department chair to inquire about your school's requirements.

Position Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate all Museum tours
  • Track statistics and assemble and report on tour programs
  • Communicate, via email and phone with group contacts and docents
  • Work with education curator and marketing department to update website with current tour and docent information
  • Update and maintain lists of school contacts in surrounding areas of King County
  • Contribute to developing new tour content and exhibition research for docents
  • Update and maintain tour/group visit documents (evaluation, sign-in, docent research forms)
  • Administrative tasks such as copying, phone, compiling data, etc.
  • Assist docent and BAM staff with school group check-in
  • Assist BAM staff with art projects for youth tours including set-up and clean-up (may require schedule adjustment)
  • Maintain supply stock of materials for art projects
  • Work with tour contacts and BAM staff to plan art projects relating to exhibitions
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Degree, or student pursuing degree in above fields a plus
  • Excellent written communication skills with correct grammar and spelling
  • Interest in museum education, education, or related field
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is a must (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to plan, think through scenarios, and problem solve
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team
  • Attention to detail related to data and record-keeping
  • Physical requirement: manual dexterity and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.Apply
