Perico Bayou Oyster Volunteer workday

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Manatee County Natural Resources

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 3 people are interested

Together with Parks staff, we will be transporting bags of oyster shell into the water to bulster existing tidal islands, and creating new ones. Perico's salt marshes are essential for healthy fisheries, coastlines, and communities. This important coastal habitat provides food, refuge, and nursery for fish, shrimp, crabs, birds, and protects shorelines from erosion while filtering runoff and improving water quality.

Be prepared to get wet and muddy at this workday, which may require wading through waist-deep water to reach the oyster bars. Closed-toe shoes that strap or tie tightly to your feet are recommended as well as sun protection (long sleeve shirt and pants, hat, sunscreen). Don't forget to bring your water bottle and a snack!

All necessary tools for placement will be provided.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older to participate.

Reservations are required.
