Food Pantry

Purpose: The purpose of our food pantry at the Mission of Saint Joan of Arc is to provide families in the community with emergency food. Individuals in the 19134 zip code are able to call in for an appointment to collect food once a month.

This is an unpaid volunteer position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Record the name of individuals who come to collect food and gather necessary information including the number of adults, children, and elders in each household.
  • Register newcomers and let them know of our regulations.
  • Hand out two prepared bags of food per household.
  • At times you may be asked to help another volunteer organize food in the pantry.

Required Clearances:

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • PA Criminal Record Check
  • FBI Criminal Background Check
  • Safe Environment Training (given on-site)

Time commitment: Our food pantry runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm every Tuesday and Thursday. We ask that you commit to at least one full shift per week.

Description

The Mission of St. Joan of Arc is a worship site of Holy Innocents' Parish which is located in the neighborhood of Harrowgate in Philadelphia. We provide the presense of the Catholic Church in the neighborhood by serving our community through our varied ministries.

  • We have a thriving Religiious Education program wich includes children and adults.
  • We provide English as a Second Language classes four mornings and two evenings a week.
  • Our After School Program takes care of children from neighboring charter and public schools.
  • We operate a food pantry twice a week wich provides emergency food to an average of 125 families per month.
  • We have recliamed an empty lot on Joyce Street with hopes of building a community garden for the neighbors.
