ORGANIZATION: Kuti Wildlife Reserve

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Join a team of volunteers at Kuti Wildlife Reserve in Malawi. Our 2000 hectare reserve houses some of the last remaining forests and grasslands in the area. The mission of our nonprofit is to protect the African bush by working cohesively with local communities.Volunteer responsibilities will include participating in anti-poaching patrols, wildlife surveys, and local environmental education. This is a great way to earn hands-on experience in fields such as conservation, research, and biology, We can cater our program to different time frames. Volunteers must stay a minimum of one week, but can stay up to a year! Volunteers hoping to become involved in our community outreach programs must be here for at least four weeks. This is for continuity purposes. Here at Kuti, we focus on getting back to nature. Volunteers who work with us have the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in the African bush. Volunteers stay in the wildlife reserve. We have chalets with a common area, showers, flushing toilets, and clean safe drinking water. This is a great opportunity for people backpacking through Malawi to live on a wildlife reserve for a small fee.The only qualification is a passion for conservation!

Mission Statement

Mission: preserve the African bush while helping local communities. Our 2000 Hectare reserve is located in central Malawi. This nation is known as 'The Warm Heart of Africa’, both for its stunning beauty and friendly people. It’s also one of the most densely populated countries in Africa and one of the poorest nations in the world. This puts enormous pressures on its natural resources. As a result, deforestation, overfishing, misuse of water, and illegal wildlife trade are big issues in Malawi. Here at Kuti, we do everything we can to provide refuge for wildlife and help locals choose sustainable lifestyles.

Description

Kuti Wildlife Reserve has been making progress since our establishment in 2005. We focus on protecting the Earth and supporting the people of Malawi. Our ongoing goal is to protect African biodiversity by changing local perceptions of wildlife. Our reserve is as important for the local communities as it is for the environment. We raise awareness about ecology and support community projects. By helping to educate Malawians to protect their heritage we hope that areas of natural beauty may be preserved for future generations.
