LSI’s Career Pathways program is currently looking for volunteers to assist students who are participating in an English Language Learning and Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) course.
Volunteers should have prior work or education experience in a health care industry (CNA, RN, doctors, pharmacists, patient support services, etc.). Prior (volunteer) experience with adult English Language Learners is preferable, otherwise willingness to attend some additional training.
Volunteers will assist students either in one-on-one or small group settings with reading comprehension strategies, academic writing activities, medical terminology explanations, test-taking strategies, and preparations for the CNA exam.
Volunteers and students will set-up their own meeting times, as their schedules allow and
will meet at public libraries, DMACC campuses, and/or LSI.
