Students in Social and Emotional Learning Class

We are a campaign to get what is known as Social and Emotional Learning in every pre-school to K12. This is training in emotional management, relationship skills and other life skills. Schools that implement these programs and practices soar in every way, as do the children's immediate and later lives - but only 10% of schools provide this incredible learning because parents at other schools (and the general public) don't even know these programs exist.

We are out to make it 100% of schools so that so all kids - and society - benefit from these life-changing, society-uplifting, game-changing programs. We are starting in LA County and secondarily in California and have been endorsed by among others LA Mayor Eric Garcetti.

You can learn a lot more at www.BigEQ.org. We are simultaneously a media/ad campaign and a grassroots mobilization campaign.

Among other actions, we have initiated a grassroots stakeholders and educators organization called the California Social and Emotional Alliance, and we we seek to build that as a one pathway to success.

We need volunteers to help in three ares: (1) with outreach primarily to many organizations and businesses and (2) somewhat with office clerical tasks and (3) with media production.

About Kumanii / Earthways

Location:

20178 Rockport Way, Malibu, CA 90265, US

Mission Statement

This is a rainforest habitat, wildlife, and cultural conservation project located in Ecuador, South America, through the US nonprofit organization Earthways, and the Ecuador nonprofit organization Kumanii. The actual volunteer work would be done in Ecuador on site.

The mission of the Kumanii Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center is to recover the vitality of the forest and its ancestral communities by healing and replenishing their fauna, with special attention to species that are locally and globally threatened.

Description

The Earthways-Kumanii Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation Center is located in the Chocó Rainforest Region of north west Ecuador, part of the Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena biodiversity hotspot. This wildlife rescue center is part of a larger effort, The Chocó Rainforest Protection Project, through partnership of the Ecuador based nonprofit Kumanii Foundation and the US based nonprofit Earthways.

The wildlife center has the following components:
1) Rescue and rehabilitation of native wild animals that are injured, ill, orphaned, or have been taken inappropriately into captivity;
2) Return of rehabilitated animals to the wild in safe areas where they will not be hunted;
3) Environmental education in the local Chachi and Afro-Ecuadorian communities about wildlife and the need to preserve their habitat;
4) Projects that provide sustainable, environmentally friendly income and alternatives to hunting locally or globally threatened species.
