Purpose: To enhance the internal structure of grant writing for greater effectiveness of funding.

Description: Passion Impact (PI) is a startup nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon that empowers students chase their passions through community service. We seek enthusiastic and dynamic Grant Writers who will be responsible for developing and writing winning grant proposals. Proposals will be designed to secure funding from public institutions, private foundations, corporations, and other grant-making entities to support and implement all aspects of the organization. The Grant Writing Interns will possess exemplary writing, communication, and budgeting skills and will persuasively convey PI’s mission and programs to potential funders. In addition, our ideal interns will be responsible for reporting to the Executive Director and to the Development Committee, collaborating to develop strategies, crafting narratives, and assembling and submitting grant requests. Our prime candidate will be extremely self-driven and invested in setting long term goals for PI as a whole. We work hard at PI and expect the same of you, but you also better be ready to have fun!

Required Education:

  • Recent graduate (within 1 year) or currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in communication, english, writing, or relevant field preferred.
  • Current high school student or recent graduate interested in any of the above degrees or fields.

Desired Skills:

  • Sense of humor
  • Enthusiastic about PI’s mission and team focused.
  • Previous grant writing experience preferred.
  • Excellent grammar and strong research skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Proactive communication skills with the ability to synthesize information in a compelling and succinct form.
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposal and grant procurement.
  • Team Player.
  • Technologically savvy and/or fast pace learner (Google Suit, MeisterTask, Canva, Slack).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Objectives: ( All objectives will be approached as a team )
  1. Work with the Development Committee to create case statements and one pagers about all of PI programs.
  2. Secure letters of recommendation for all of our programs from relevant constituents.
  3. Identify new grants with which PI is a good fit to apply.
  4. Write and submit grant proposals.
  5. Complete an Internship Portfolio that includes a personal reflection and a presentation.

Duties

  • Read all grant proposals that PI has submitted.
  • Conduct the full range of activities required to conceptualize, write, submit, and manage grant proposals.
  • Maintain submission and forecast calendar to ensure timely submissions.
  • Work with the ED to collect and create relevant financial budgets.
  • Research prospective capacity building and programmatic grants and update the calendar.

Commitment:

  • June 19th, 2018 - August 16th, 2018 (possibility to extend based on performance and project availability)
  • Must attend the June 17th, 2018 Volunteer Event with Habitat for Humanity Restore.
  • Must attend training June 19, 20, 21, 2018.
  • Must attend weekly office meetings on Tuesday at 9 AM.
  • Must accumulate 150 hours.

Office Hours: - The office will be open the following days and times:

  • Monday: 12-6
  • Tuesday - Thursday: 8-5
  • Friday - Sunday: Closed

Compensation: As a small grassroots organization we do not currently have funding to compensate interns. If you are a student and qualify for work study at PCC, PSU, or UP, we will gladly work with your college or university to make sure that you receive compensation for your time devoted to Passion Impact. We are also happy to help you receive course credit!
