Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center inspires people to eat healthy, sustainably grown food and to steward our natural resources for future generations. To this end we grow organic food using sustainable practices, grow native plants using local seeds to maintain genetic diversity, educate children about food and the environment, restore habitat along our river and around the farm, and conduct research in agriculture, conservation, education, and native plant production.
The habitat restoration we do on the farm helps to increase the diversity of plants and wildlife on and around the farm, protects salmon habitat along the Snoqualmie River, helps prevent erosion and improve soil quality, provides habitat for pollinators and pest predators, and provides learning opportunities for our youth education program. The work you do as habitat restoration volunteers helps us to tip the scale back towards our native plants and habitats. We have a systematic plan to get rid of invasive weeds, like blackberry, bindweed, knotweed, and clematis, but we can’t do it without the help of volunteers! Volunteers have already worked their magic on large sections of the farm, turning blackberry monocultures into forests and riparian wetlands. Volunteer with us to enjoy the beauty and calm of the farm and to do your part to restore the land that sustains us and the wildlife around us.
The Work: We will be planting new native plants in the areas we weeded last summer. We will also continuing to remove weeds like blackberry to give our existing native plants some room to breathe and to make room for more new plants. Meet at the covered picnic tables located just south of our West Entrance parking area.
Age Restrictions: We do not have any age restrictions, however, young children must be accompanied by an adult and anyone under 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or guardian at or before the event.
Other Restrictions: Dogs, other than service animals, are not permitted on the property.
Parking: Parking is available at Oxbow's West Entrance parking area. Directions can be found on our website here:http://www.oxbow.org/about/location/ If you use a GPS to help you get here, it will guide you to our Delivery Entrance. The West Entrance is located just north of the Delivery Entrance.
Work Clothes: We suggest wearing long pants, preferably thicker, like jeans, and bringing a long-sleeved work shirt, especially since we will likely be working in and around blackberry. Boots are best with shovels, but tennis shoes will work. Please keep in mind that with the rainy season comes lots of mud! Open-toed shoes would not be appropriate. Keep the weather in mind and make sure to bring sun-gear and/or rain-gear if appropriate. If you want to be extra comfortable when working with blackberries, thick leather gloves are best, but gardening gloves can be a help. Oxbow Farm will provide gloves, but they are not as thick as leather gloves. Some have had good results working with blackberry by putting Oxbow's gloves over light-weight gardening gloves. Glasses/sunglasses and a brimmed hat can help deflect any surprise branches or canes of blackberry, but aren’t required.
Water: Water will be provided by Oxbow Farm for drinking and washing up. Please bring your own reusable bottle, if possible, to limit disposable cup waste.
Lunch/Snacks: You are welcome to bring your own food with you to eat on the farm during or after the event. We have several picnic tables and areas in which to spread out a blanket when you're done working.
Tour: A tour or hike will be offered at the end of the event for those that would like to participate.More opportunities with Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center

Mission Statement
Our mission is to inspire people to eat healthy, sustainably grown food and to steward our natural resources for future generations. By creating connections to, curiosity about, and confidence in nature, Oxbow Education (OxEd) lays the foundation for future stewards of the Earth, giving people the tools and inspiration to cultivate their own relationship with their community, the food they eat, and the natural world.
Description
The Center is located on 240 acres of forest and grassland bordered by Western Washington’s Snoqualmie River. We use this mixed landscape to:
Produce food. We cultivate 30 acres of mixed vegetable crops using agro-ecological principles and engage in research to inform conservation farming practice.
Grow native plants. We operate a native plant nursery that produces plants for habitat restoration projects, educational gardens, and urban landscapes, and conducts research on native plant propagation using sustainable growing methods.
Connect children to nature. We offer environmental education programs for children pre-K thru high school to build their comfort in the outdoors and provide them with opportunities to learn about the links between agriculture, conservation, and the environment.
