Job Summary: Organizes, straightens and shelves library materials on carts and library collection including books, audio books, CDs, DVDs and periodicals.
Essential Functions: Duties include shelving library materials in numerical and alphabetical order, shelf read collections for accuracy, face books on the shelf so they are neat in appearance, put books on carts in fine sort order, and report damaged materials to staff.
Time Required: Minimum of 2 hours per week. Days and times volunteered are dependent on library needs and availability of volunteer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to organize materials in alphabetical and numerical order. Knowledge of the Dewey decimal system is helpful. Ability to interact with patrons and work effectively and cooperatively with library staff is necessary.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum age for volunteering in this position is 18. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform lifting of 15-20lbs and shelving of heavy materials while standing, squatting and bending. Volunteer must be able to push a cart filled with heavy books the distance of the library several times per shift.

With the largest collection of materials in public libraries in Central Maine, the Waterville Public Library is sure to have something that will interest everyone! The Library has an outstanding collection of books (fiction and nonfiction) for readers of all ages, graphic novels, audiobooks (CD, and available to download), DVD's, magazines, newspapers, music CDs, and a fabulous Large Print collection. The Library provides access to 14 public computers as well as a teaching and learning space with 15 laptop computers, projection capabilities and flexible seating. The Waterville Public Library Business & Career Center began in March of 2011 and provides a large array of services for job seekers, career changers, entrepreneurs, businesses, and creative types.
