ORGANIZATION: Alzheimer's Association Oregon & SW Washington Chapter

The Oregon Chapter of Alzheimer's Association is seeking volunteers to facilitate a dementia caregiver support group in Sunriver.

An Alzheimer's Association support group is an open gathering of people with common problems, needs, and interests who come together to share their feelings, thoughts, and experience to better cope with and managed the shared problems of dementia in a safe environment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with dementia as a family member or friend.
  • Strong listening and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to redirect and facilitate discussion.
  • Ability to create and maintain a safe environment where participants' thoughts and feelings are valued.

Training:
3 hours of online training combined with 2 hours webex or live in Portland

Time commitment:
1.5 hours once per month

The Alzheimer’s Association Oregon & SW Washington Chapter is part of the Alzheimer’s Association, the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. From its offices in Portland, Bend and Medford, the Oregon Chapter provides education and support for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their families and caregivers. In addition, it offers local support groups, early-stage engagement programs, community education classes and a 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900).
