ORGANIZATION: Thiebaut Method

As volunteer Role Models, we cultivate Learners’ intrinsic learning motivations (ILMs). In other words, we help children discover what they are naturally excited to learn about and then continuously introduce learning opportunities to feed those excitements.

Our Approach:

If we can help each Learner discover what she's intrinsically motivated to learn about, then she will do the one thing sure to accelerate the development of her skills, knowledge, and abilities: spend lots and lots of time learning.

What Role Models do :

10BH Learners spend about 5-8 hours a week "learning for fun". That's because volunteer Role Models bring learning activities to every lesson that are based on their Learner's intrinsic learning motivations (ILMs) and leave those activities for homework so the Learner can continue learning in between lessons.

How Role Models are prepared :

We've designed a volunteer Role Model support system that ensures Role Models are assigned to and assisted by a full-time Program Specialist who is expert in our approach and understands and knows how to support them in all the dynamics that surround giving home tutoring lessons.

The basics of Role Modeling include:

  1. Meet with a Learner and their parent once a week in their home for a one hour lesson.
  2. Complete a Role Model training that teaches you how to cultivate intrinsic learning motivations.
  3. Meet your Program Specialist to make sure you have the full time support of an expert every week you Role Model.
  4. Use our thousands of learning activities and books to plan your lessons.

Other cool parts of being a Role Model:

  1. No experience needed - We will train, support, and certify you in our new teaching approach after 6 months!
  2. Traveling accommodated - We set up substitute lessons for Learners when Role Models travel.
  3. Efficient lesson planning - Your Program Specialist will prepare your learning activities for you if you are in a rush.
