The end of summer and beginning of the new school year is a time of excitement and anticipation for both students and parents alike. School is one of the few stable, secure places in the lives of homeless children, a place where they can acquire the skills needed to escape poverty. And you can help students understand how critical being in school and learning is.

Children experiencing homelessness need extra time and attention to succeed in school. We train and match our volunteer tutors with students in their community who then meet weekly to focus on learning. You can specify to work one-on-one with an elementary, middle or high school student or even meet your student virtually!

Based in Southern California, School on Wheels provides academic tutoring to children living in shelters, motels, cars, group foster homes and on the streets. We provide homeless students stability in a time of stress and transition and help them achieve educational success so that they may break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

The heart of School on Wheels’ programs is the volunteer tutors who come from all backgrounds and professions, with a shared goal - to reach out to a child, to teach, to mentor and assist in their educational life.

Join our team and make a difference in the life of a homeless child. Let's break the cycle of homelessness and poverty through education together, today.
