The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
FIRST in Maryland will be supporting over 40 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competitions from Dec. 2018 - April 2019 throughout Maryland for students ages 6 - 18. There will be hundreds of fun opportunities to volunteer for a day as a judge (both technical or non-technical) or referee or for logistical support. A technical or robotics background is NOT required (although these are fun roles for engineers & techies) and online and on-site training is provided. These competitions run like sporting events and are high energy.
The planning committees are now meeting to put the calendar in place for the 2018-19 season. The event calendar for 2018-19 will be in place by the end of September 2018.
