Pawz for Kids is a "therapy dog" program which provides abused children with the ability to interact with gentle, specially-trained dogs, providing a unique opportunity for healing and acceptance.
Obedience training is the first requirement for a prospective Pawz for Kids volunteer team (dog and handler). A temperament-test by the dog trainer will be requested. Finally, the dogs are tested and certified by Therapy Dog International, Inc. Handlers must be able to pass a background check and complete a training course on providing crisis intervention with child-victims and their families.
