Mission Statement

To promote understanding of the lives of individuals and the value of community through encounters with the history and ongoing preservation of a New England waterfront neighborhood. Toward that goal, Strawbery Banke Museum: • Acquires and conserves, for today's visitors and for future generations, historic buildings, objects, and other materials pertinent to its mission. • Conducts research aimed at placing local developments within the broader context of city, state, and national history. • Disseminates the results of that research to the public through exhibitions, publications, demonstrations, tours, symposia, workshops, and other educational activities and programs.

Description

Strawbery Banke Museum is a place to learn, a place to gather, and a sustainable resource for the community. Through restored furnished houses, exhibits, historic landscapes and gardens, and costumed roleplayers, Strawbery Banke interprets the living history of generations who settled in Portsmouth, NH from the late 17th century to the mid-20th century. The historic houses and galleries are open May 1 through October 31, 10 am to 5 pm daily; and November through April for guided walking tours, site rentals, public programs, and special events.
