Volunteers help us provide lunch in our non-traditional "soup kitchen" by being our restaurant staff every weekday. By acting as hosts, wait staff, bussers and more, our volunteers offer our guests a chance to sit down and be offered choices, something they might not find elsewhere. All training is provided - no restaurant experience necessary. Just wear closed toe shoes, a ball cap and a friendly smile and we'll give you the rest.
All volunteers must be at least 10 years old (ages 10-13 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, no more than 2 kids per adult) and complete an online profile in our scheduling system, including signing a waiver of liability. NourishKC, formerly known as Episcopal Community Services, specializes in a unique blend of food related programs.
The Kansas City Community Kitchen provides more than 1500 restaurant-style meals each week to anyone who comes to eat. Our Food Security Network supplies thousands more meals per year through a network of food pantries, BackSnack programs and other meal programs around the metro. Perhaps what makes us most unique is our Culinary Cornerstones training program which provides individuals an opportunity to learn life skills as well as culinary skills, giving them a chance to get a living wage job that will provide them with food access for the long term.
