Volunteers will clean a 9.5 mile stretch of river from Sturgis Ferry boat ramp in Iowa City, IA, to the Hills Access conservation park near Hill, IA. Volunteers can paddle or help as land volunteers unloading and sorting garbage and recyclables.

Iowa River Cleanup
Sturgis Ferry Park to Hills Access (~9.5 Miles)
6:30 a.m.: At Sturgis Ferry Boat Ramp: Public canoe delivery and Private canoe and
gear unloading at the Sturgis Ferry Boat Ramp. After unloading private boats, proceed
to Hills Access for check-in. Ramp will be staffed at this time.
7:00 am: Registration at Hills Access - All Volunteers must check−in.
7:30 am: Shuttle bus leaves Hills Access for Sturgis Boat Ramp.
7:45 am: Cleanup orientation and river safety talk.
8:00 am: Canoes begin launching.
9:00 am: Mid-Point 1: Izaak Walton League boat ramp − west bank - private (~2.0
miles). Unload large trash items from canoes as needed. Porta−potty and drinking water
are available.
11:00 am: Mid-Point 2: Iowa City Wastewater Outfall − east bank - private (~4.0 miles).
Unload large trash items from canoes as needed. Drinking water available.
1:00 pm: Hills Access − Land volunteers will be ready to remove garbage and sort
recyclable loads.
3:30pm: All clean-up volunteers off the water at Hills Access by this time.
Water will be provided, but you are responsible for lunch and any other food items you
require. It is advisable to bring a personal cooler for your lunch/snacks and a reusable
water bottle.
