Western Youth Services

Western Youth Services is conducting a Healing Arts Drive and we need your help! Join forces with a team of friends, family and colleagues to collect art supplies that will directly benefit our clients.

In addition, we invite volunteers to participate in sorting out the art supplies collected and preparing art activities at the WYS Corporate office in Laguna Hills on 9.11.17 from 11am-1pm (a light lunch will be provided).

This event will be held in tandem with the September 11 th National Day of Service and Remembrance; we remember the lives lost and aim to rekindle the spirit of unity and compassion, as we serve disadvantaged members of our society and work towards creating a more inclusive world.

Donated art supplies to Western Youth Services will directly benefit the children and youth we serve. Art therapy has been a useful tool in relieving the toxic stress from traumatic events our clients may have faced. The art supplies will be distributed through our many programs including: our clinics and therapists, Behavioral Health Aids working in elementary schools, Family Resource Centers, and Outreach and Engagement sites.

While art supplies will continuously be collected until 9/11/17, volunteers will sort out of all the donated art supplies and will pre-package/prepare art activities on September 11, 2017 at the Western Youth Services Corporate office in Laguna Hills.

Volunteers can either drop off the art supplies to Western Youth Services’ Corporate office in Laguna Hills OR have Western Youth Services staff members pick up the art supplies by Thursday, September 7, 2017 at noon.

Please email Amy Chi at Amy.Chi@westernyouthservices.org if you can collect art supplies and/or participate in the sorting of supplies and preparing art activities at the Corporate office on 9/11/17.

Description

Western Youth Services (WYS), founded in 1972, is a community-based non-profit agency that provides prevention and mental health treatment services for troubled youth and their families. WYS programs include children's mental health clinics throughout Orange County; services in Family Resource Centers in Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Orange, Westminster and Huntington Beach; and counseling and crisis intervention services for the Orangewood Children's Home, a facility that cares for abused and neglected children. In public-private partnership with the Orange County Health Care Agency and local School Districts, WYS also provides services on-site in public schools throughout the County. WYS employs nearly 200 staff, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, family counselors, and support personnel. It also serves as a training site for clinical interns. A volunteer Board of Directors comprised of professionals from business, human services, health care, and education governs the agency.
