Photograph Collection Volunteer (Scanning and Resizing Images)

The San Diego History Center is seeking a volunteer to assist in our Photograph Collection.

Containing over 2.5 million images, the Photograph Collection is one of the largest regional photography collections in the United States. The collection documents the people and the environment of San Diego County from the mountains and the desert to downtown and the beaches. Images from late 19th and 20th century photographers illustrate significant developments including: how the arrival of diverse cultures changed the face of the region; the uses of water in an arid climate; Indian culture; border relationships with Mexico; air and automobile transportation; suburbanization; agriculture; recreation; and more. The Photograph Collection is housed within the History Center’s Research Archives.

Responsibilities:

- Scan and resize digital images and do minor tonal corrections in Adobe Photoshop, type file names

Qualifications:

- Must be skilled in Adobe Photoshop and scanning experience preferred, accurate typing, good spelling ability, good attention to detail

Schedule:

- Typical shifts are one day per week (Monday-Friday) for about 3-4 hours per day. Suggested hours are 9:30am-1:00pm or 1:30-4:30pm. Day of the week is flexible.
