Sound the Alarm
Sound the Alarm

Help us Sound the Alarm, Save a Life.

Every day 7 people die in home fires. You can help change that. On April 18, the American Red Cross will team up with fire departments, volunteers, and partners to Sound the Alarm with home fire safety and free smoke alarm installation events.

Join us as we install 100,000 free smoke alarms across the country and 700 in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas! This program has saved 682 lives across the United States since its inception in 2014, and that includes several precious lives saved right here in our own community.

Give us one Saturday morning of your time and effort, and we'll give you the chance to make a tremendous difference in the lives of your neighbors, and you'll have a great time doing it.

You will come to our office for orientation, get breakfast and your custom t-shirt, and receive your smoke alarms and materials along with your team's service map. Then your team will head out to visit 5 or 6 households, where you will install free alarms and help the residents create a plan, before you come back to our office to return your equipment and paperwork. You will be done no later than 2pm.

We never send a volunteer out into strangers' homes alone. You will go in a team both for your own safety and to make the most impact with your visit. Teams consist of 3 people:
1 Installer will be in charge of installing the alarm (tools provided).
1 Documenter will get required documentation for the install.
1 Educator will provide fire safety education to the family.

If you sign up as an individual, we'll team you up with two other people. If you have two friends and you'd like to do this together, that's great. This is an excellent opportunity for school groups, church groups, and civic groups, as this is a great community engagement that doesn't require a lengthy commitment or advance training.

Together we can help prevent these needless tragedies in the Quad Cities area. We can save lives.
