There are lovely wigs for cancer patients who have lost or will lose their hair, at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center, and we need a someone or possible a couple of someones willing to be trained on how to properly fit a wig (it's easy!) and how to care for them, so you can pass that information along to cancer patients. You can pretty much pick which morning, or afternoon, works best for you, each week. Then the wonderful nurses and navigators at Legacy will direct patients wanting a wig to come in on the day you're there. This is a marvelous opportunity for those who love to fluff and buff, tie scarves, etc. You might need to come to the American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center at OHSU's Center For Health and Healing to get trained by a volunteer who is already a wig and scarf ace, but that would just be once, and you would get to go through Legacy's volunteer training process too. This is a great opportunity for warm, friendly, kind people, who understand the value of a friendly face in times of stress, but who also understand the importance of patient confidentiality.
