Under the guidance of the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Prospect Research Intern will aid in the identification and qualification of prospective and current donors using various research tools and databases. Due to the nature of The Geek Group, this role requires great creativity, self-direction and a general curiosity for the work.
The Prospect Research Intern will focus on the day-to-day operation of prospect research for The Geek Group by identifying, analyzing, discovering, and documenting information on current donors, community prospects, prospective donors, and community friends and partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct in-depth background research on existing donors and prospects including information on employment, businesses, wealth, philanthropic interest, organizational affiliations, and capacity.
Utilize online resources and databases to gather and analyze background information for prospect profiles
Screen and qualify donors and potential prospects
Review publications to discover facts regarding prospects in order to facilitate further cultivation
Support Advancement staff and projects by connecting current needs and prospect interests.
Qualifications:
Degree or pursuit of degree in public and nonprofit administration
Familiarity with Salesforce or comparable CRM software
Familiarity with West Michigan nonprofits
Skilled in basic software including Google Docs
Familiarity with social media
Interest in puzzles and logic games a plus
Hours: A flexible schedule of 10 -20 hours per week, to be arranged by intern and staff. Some of the work can be done independently if intern has access to necessary tools outside of the office.
