This orientation will prepare you to volunteer for the Berryessa Library Homework Club which begins on September 12th and occurs every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30-5:30pm.
Once you have completed the Orientation you will be able to sign up as a Homework Club Coach which entails...
- Helping young students with their homework in a range of subjects - reading, writing, math, social studies, and science
- Coaching students in groups of one to four
- Assisting with enrichment activities with those students who have completed their homework
- Assisting with administrative tasks such as record keeping
Skills/ Experience Needed:
- Prior experience tutoring is a plus, but not required
- Must have the requisite skills to support elementary school students. This can be strength in one subject area or general knowledge in multiple areas.
- Experience or interest working with youth
- Strong oral communication skills a must
- Dependable, patient, and flexible
- Second language ability a plus, but not required
- Fingerprint clearance required for volunteers age 18 and over
- Homework Coaches need to commit to two hours a week, two days per month for six months
- The Homework Club will run Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30-5:30pm
- Age Must be at least 15+
- Oral communication and written skills in English Must be at least High

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
