Tulsa City-County Library's After-School Homework Club assists young learners at six library locations. Students receive homework assistance Monday through Thursday from 3:30 - 7:30--hours vary by location.

Through this program, homework assistance is available and free to any Tulsa-City County student currently in grades three through eight. Registered students have a standing weekly appointment of 30 minutes with one volunteer. Some students will register and participate for the whole school year while others may need only short-term help.

*The Intergalactic Spaceport & Emporium at Central library along with its Homework Club, will start helping students with creative writing through 30 minute one to one writing lessons and exploration activities.
Homework Assistance is available at this location Tues & Thurs, 3:30-6:30p.m.
Creative Writing is offered on Wed, 3:30-6:00p.m. & Sat noon-2:30p.m.

After-School Homework Club Volunteers

- Provide support and assistance to children in grades 3 - 8 who need a little extra help with their homework assignments or creative writing(only at Central library).
- Assist students with study skills at the library.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help designated student(s) with homework questions, in a patient, positive and welcoming manner.
  • Assist student(s) individually, providing clarity, direction and understanding of homework assignments.
  • Promote use of library resources.


Time Involved:

  • September 2018 through May 2019
  • Mondays through Thursdays after school, late afternoons. Saturdays 12-2:30p.m. only at Central library.


Training:

Library orientation and training is provided


Qualifications, Skills Required, and Restrictions:

  • Minimum age: 18 years old.
  • Pass background check.
  • One to three years of experience in teaching, training, or tutoring.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with people of diverse ages and learning abilities.
  • Demonstrates patience, flexibility and dependability.
  • Serves as a positive role model.

Work requires light physical effort in the handling of moderately light materials up to 25 pounds. Job may require sitting and standing for long periods of time with occasional stooping and bending. Volunteer must be able to retrieve and replace items from floor level to up to 5½ feet in height.
