Volunteers are integral to Alexandra House's Mission in assisting victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence and abuse later in life. Whether working in the shelter, as hospital advocates, or childcare providers volunteers are an indispensable component of Alexandra House's work. There is no substitute for a reassuring voice and a steady hand in an emergency.

Attend a biannual training session to learn if this opportunity may be right for you. The trainings consist of 10 mandatory sessions that cover topics ranging from legal matters, to specific needs of survivors and their families, interactive workshops, guest speakers and current research to help prepare volunteers for the sensitive nature of this work.

An ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, heightened cultural awareness, and an ability to maintain confidentiality.

Candidates must have a valid Driver's License, pass a background check, be able to make a one-year commitment and attend meetings and trainings as needed.

Volunteers enroll by completing a skills and interests checklist and these are matched to community needs. From the matches, the volunteer selects a volunteer job that is meaningful and fits.
