ORGANIZATION: Project Feast

  • 6 people are interested

Interested in helping grow and guide the organization in its fifth year? We are looking for new members from all walks of life and board experience, but we are especially interested in hearing from people with a background in the culinary and food industry, people with lived experience as immigrants and/or refugees, or who have worked with the immigrant and refugee communities, and those with experience in finance.

Ways that board members are involved include:

  • Grant writing / fundraising
  • Financial planning and oversight
  • Strategic planning
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Networking on behalf of the organization and connecting us with corporate buyers for our wholesale food production or for catering services
  • Being mentors for those experiencing board membership for the first time
  • Advocating for equity on behalf on the refugee/immigrant communities within Project Feast and on a broader scale

The Project Feast board typically meets every other month. Between the board meetings, follow-up work and attending occasional Project Feast events, please plan for a time commitment of 10 hours a month.

Mission Statement

Project Feast's mission is to transform the lives of refugees and immigrants by providing pathways to sustainable employment in the food industry and to enrich communities through intercultural exchange.

Description

As a small team, we appreciate the help of our dedicated volunteers. If you do not see a volunteer position that is a good fit, please contact us with your a description of your skills and experience that you would like to contribute to our team.

At Project Feast, food brings people to the table, transforms lives, and fosters mutual understandings across diverse cultures. We believe that immigrants and refugees possess incomparable wisdom, skills and knowledge to contribute to our communities.

Washington State welcomes thousands of refugees and immigrants every year. Too often our immigrant and refugee communities feel marginalized as opportunities to prosper remain out of reach. As a result, an alarming number of new immigrants and refugees from these countries suffer higher levels of unemployment and earn far less than their native-born counterparts, making it a challenge to support their families.

Not only do we empower amazing cooks from around the globe by equipping them with the hands-on culinary training to gain their footing in the food industry, we also connect them to opportunities to make a living and share their wealth of food knowledge with our greater Seattle community. In the process, our participants become deeply integrated into local communities and economies.
