Jobendy (pictured here with his mom) was cured of appendicitis by the new surgical team at St. Boniface Hospital. While an easily-treated ailment in the USA, appendicitis is life-threatening without access to surgery.

We are seeking some friendly volunteers to help at a grassroots gala event raising funds for healthcare at St. Boniface Hospital on Haiti’s southern peninsula, which is still rebuilding from Hurricane Matthew. The hospital provides quality healthcare regardless of a patient's ability to pay. There are over 2 million people in Haiti who would have no access to healthcare if not for the hospital, which is operated by the St. Boniface Haiti Foundation.

We have many easy-but-essential tasks from running registration to putting programs out at tables, and we also have a fund-a-need auction that requires a huge amount of volunteers in order to run smoothly. Past volunteers have found it very inspiring to see the room raise over $150,000 for healthcare in about 10 minutes!

Your contact (Karin) is an experienced volunteer manager who does her best to make sure that every volunteer is busy and appreciated. There are snacks and water for all volunteers, and a light dinner for all who are working the later two shifts. We also do our best to welcome volunteers to enjoy the keynote speech at the event. It's a great opportunity especially for people interested in public health or social justice.

Volunteer shifts: 5:00 - 8:45 PM; and/or 6:45 - 9:45 PM

About Health Equity International

Location:

Mission Statement

Health Equity International is dedicated to providing essential health services to the people of southern Haiti, especially the most vulnerable. We are committed to building a comprehensive, efficient, and resilient health system that provides high quality care. We believe that ensuring access to life-saving and life-changing health services is a critical component to building strong and productive communities.

Description

Health Equity International is a recognized and award-winning leader providing accessible, compassionate, and quality healthcare in Haiti. In a country where too often the stories are of good intentions gone awry or promises going unfulfilled, we have a consistent track record for getting the job done and making a sustainable impact for the people and communities we serve.

Health Equity International has been able to find success in a context where so many others have failed.

Health Equity International is deeply responsive to and part of the communities we serve. From the beginning, our organization has engaged local Haitian community leadership in making plans, including establishing the hospital in Fond des Blancs. Of our more than 500 employees in Haiti, 98% are Haitian, including the majority of the leadership team: the Director General, Deputy Director General, and Medical Director. This community-led approach ensures that the organization’s initiatives and operations are culturally appropriate, responsive to the priorities of the service recipients, and empower Haitians to help Haitians.
