Restoration Work Party Volunteer
Become a SHADOW Steward!
Join SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve's volunteer team for hands-on learning, time outdoors, and a community of environmentally conscious friends!
Help maintain the beautiful grounds of the Nature Preserve by removing invasive weeds, planting native trees, and maintaining our trail system. Restoration opportunities are available throughout the week and (most) Saturdays from 10am to 2pm at SHADOW’s Restoration Work Parties.
All you need are sturdy, closed-toed shoes, clothes for working outdoors, and a water bottle; SHADOW will provide tools and training. Please be advised that you may encounter mud and/or plants with thorns. Long pants are highly recommended.
Meet at SHADOW’s Education Center and enjoy coffee, tea, and light snacks while you mingle with the team. After a brief tour of our 5,000-year-old peat bog and a safety orientation, travel to a different area within the Nature Preserve each week to perform on-the-ground restoration.
Interested in volunteering but Saturday mornings don’t fit your schedule? Contact our Education & Restoration Manager, Emily to inquire about opportunities throughout the week!

Mission Statement
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the sustainability of Shadow Lake Bog and other unique habitats within Jenkins Creek Basin through environmental education, preservation, and restoration.
Description
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is dedicated to protecting wetland habitat in South King County through education, preservation, and restoration. To date, SHADOW has placed nearly 100 acres of wetland habitat under permanent protection, providing critical wildlife habitat and passage in a landscape rapidly losing its functioning wetlands and green spaces. The true gem of SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is our very own SHADOW Lake Bog and half-mile boardwalk trail leading into the heart of it!
