What is the Sound the Alarm Campaign?
The American Red Cross Disaster Cycle Services is launching this year's Sound the Alarm Campaign in September 2017. Its goal is to reduce the rate of deaths and injuries due to home fires by 25 percent over 5 years. Its strategy includes participating in a community coalition that targets neighborhoods at-risk for home fires; installs and tests smoke alarms at no cost; and provides fire safety and disaster preparedness education/planning.
Help in one of the following exciting ways below:
- Smoke Alarm Installation Team - Join a team of 3-4 people to conduct home visits, providing fire safety tips, testing existing smoke alarms in homes, and install smoke alarms within the home per manufacturer’s instructions.
- Translators - Help provide language support during the home smoke alarm installation visits. Languages needed include but are not limited to Spanish and Cantonese.
- Pre-Event Canvasser- Help us collect appointments for home smoke alarm installations by either canvasing door-to-door or working a table at a local gathering spot to notify residents about upcoming installations in their area.
