What a better way to honor those who have fallen than to create a safe and healthy space for young stars to learn, grow, and thrive. For this year's National Day of Service, the Lowell 1st Service Platoon will partner with Mill City Grows and the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School to transform a shared community and school garden space.

This will be a high-impact project, and over the course of the day we will:

- Install 9 bed raised gardening beds and fill them for use,
- Top dress and seed along a newly installed retaining wall,
- Put down landscaping fabric and mulch,
- Build a new outdoor shed for tools and materials,
- Build planter and portable benches for an outdoor classroom, and
- Expand the path to the garden by clearing overgrown brush and adding gravel.

This is a family- and kid-friendly event. We will have service projects and activities for children, teens, and adults. Music, snacks, and lunch will be provided!

WHAT TO WEAR: Clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Wear The Mission Continues shirt, and if you don't have one yet we'll hook you up!

WHAT TO BRING: Bring out your friends and family, and a can do spirit. We'll take care of the rest! PARKING: Parking lot at the school INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN: We will Rock It rain or shine!

Mission Statement

We are on a mission to connect veterans with under-resourced communities: empowering veterans to continue their service, while empowering communities with the talent, skills and preparedness of veterans to generate visible impact.

Description

The Mission Continues is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit that empowers veterans to continue their service, and empowers communities with veteran talent, skills and preparedness to generate visible impact.

Veterans possess the drive and desire to serve others, but without access to the tools needed, their potential to make meaningful impact at the local level remains untapped. On the other end of the spectrum growing numbers of communities in this country are under-resourced and being left behind.

At The Mission Continues, we’re on a mission to connect veterans with under-resourced communities.

Our programs in cities across the country deploy veteran volunteers alongside nonprofit partners and community leaders to improve educational resources, increase access to parks and green spaces, foster neighborhood identity, and more.

Our vision is for all veterans with a desire to continue their service to be part of a movement to transform communities.
