About

Certified Counselor: Counselors provide information on complex subjects to Medicare beneficiaries making important decisions that affect their finances and health care. It is the counselor's responsibility to clarify the materials and remain unbiased. Becoming a certified counselor requires an orientation, online and in person training, shadowing, a mentor/mentee relationship and certification tests (it's a lot, and worth it).

Telecenter Operator: The Telecenter is a toll free hotline established to answer calls about Medicare and health insurance issues on behalf of Pennsylvania. The operators provide information and referrals to local APPRISE Programs for problem resolution. This position requires orientation, online training, equipment instruction and optional in person counselor training.

Community Educator: Present a variety of Medicare topics to the public and participate in local wellness fairs and expos. Community educators attend an orientation, work with a mentor and learn basic Medicare information through online modules/certification tests.

Office Assistant: bring files up to date, stockpile a current body of community resources, data entry, create brochures aimed at community engagement, keep Telecenter materials up to date. Orientation and some online modules are needed for this position.

Community Liaison: Be a presence at community meetings, help build community partnerships, willingness to share and talk about APPRISE. Orientation and some online modules required

Specialist: Once a volunteer becomes a certified counselor, they may opt to for advanced training in areas like long term care insurance.

Volunteers may not hold a current insurance license.
