Do you have a passion for education, an excitement for reading, or a desire to impact a child's life? With just 1 hour a week, you can make a difference. Become a ReadingPal!

ReadingPals is a one-on-one Pre-K mentoring program. Using themed literacy kits, books, puzzles, Play-Doh, and other supplied learning activities, ReadingPals volunteers help Pre-K students build critical skills for kindergarten readiness, including early literacy, social-emotional, and a love for learning. Volunteers receive training and ongoing support. No experience necessary!

Volunteers are asked to commit to 1 hour per week for the duration of the school year, or you may partner with a friend and alternate weeks. Mentoring sessions run each school year September through May.

Volunteers are needed at the following locations:

  • C.A. Weis Elementary
  • Davis Hwy. Head Start Center
  • Global Learning Academy
  • Montclair Elementary
  • O.J. Semmes Elementary
  • West Pensacola Elementary
A successful background check including references and a national fingerprint-based criminal history screening is required. Volunteers must be able to work independently with young children.

Mission Statement

ReadyKids! is a leader in the early literacy space for prekindergarten students in Escambia County and an extension of support for their families. ReadyKids! focuses on mentoring students, engaging families in the education process of their prekindergartners, and supporting educators - all to maximize children’s potential through increased school readiness.


Our goal is to recruit at least 250 adult volunteers (ReadingPals) every school year to help Escambia County pre-kindergarten students build early literacy and social-emotional skills necessary for kindergarten readiness.
