Interfaith Committee for Detained Immigrants (ICDI) is a faith-based, welcoming and inclusive LGBTQ-affirming organization where all faiths are welcome. Our mission is to accompany men and women through detention, deportation, and post-detention. We currently have five programs, all aimed at safeguarding the dignity of the detained immigrant and his or her family. We are seeking volunteers who are willing to make long-term commitments to our participants as trust takes years to build, seconds to break and forever to repair.

Team Volunteer Opportunity at House of Hospitality

Please express your interest by sending a letter of inquiry to icdi.jsarto@outlook.com. Please put "TeamVolunteer" in the subject line.

Come build relationships, share skills or hobbies, and spiritually accompany men, women and children from all around the world who have left their home countries and need a safe place to call home while seeking asylum.

We are looking for teams of volunteers for various shifts on Saturdays and Sundays at each of our Houses of Hospitality (Cicero and Hyde Park). You can build your own team or we can put you on a team.

This is a chance to make a difference in the lives of others while having your life transformed by the lives of the very people you serve.

Mission Statement

The Interfaith Committee for Detained Immigrants is a non-profit, faith-based organization of staff and volunteers called to respond actively and publicly to the suffering of all individuals and communities affected by immigration detention, deportation, and post-detention through pastoral care, advocacy, public witness and other activities.

Description

The Interfaith Committee for Detained Immigrants (ICDI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that ministers to immigrants caught in the broken immigration system. ICDI is composed of five different programs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the detention and deportation process.

The Post-Detention Accompaniment Network (PDAN) is an accompaniment and housing program that provides case management services and hospitality for immigrants in the process of legalizing their immigration status.

Court Watch program provides a presence in the immigration courts as accompaniment to people who are detained and as a reminder of the humanity of the people whose lives are in limbo.

Jail Visitation is a ministry of presence and listening. Volunteers provide pastoral care at McHenry, Kenosha, and Dodge County Jails.

Deportation ministry provides pastoral care to people on the day of their deportation and accompanies families as they are torn apart.

Unaccompanied Children's Interfaith Ministry provides spiritual care for children who have been detained and are without a parent or family. This program is a partnership with Heartland Alliance.
