Graphic design for Sustainability Systems Illustration

We're looking for the volunteer to provide a design that includes a "systems perspective."

"Leverage points" are places within a complex system (a corporation, an economy, a living body, a city, an ecosystem) where a small shift in one thing can produce big changes in everything.

Global Green is seeking help from a professional graphic designer to help illustrate:

1) Existing Systems as they currently function and then;

2) Opportunities for change within these systems

Current systems that Global Green is actively working on projects include:

a) How soil is 'used' and moved around in urban and surburan areas (and opportunities and challenges for using compost)

b) Instituting food waste diversion programs in apartment buildings by cities, real estate companies and citizens. This includes logistics as well as outreach and education.

One way to show how systems function is through a a causal loop diagram (CLD). By showing how one action produces a reaction, or what are the elements in the "supply chain" then the system can be better understood and evaluated for how we can transition to a more sustainable system. Causal look diagrams explain the behavior of a system by showing a collection of connected nodes and the feedback loops created by the connections. One or more of the nodes represent the symptoms of the problem. The rest of the nodes are the causal chains causing the problem.
The graphic designer will have the opportunity to learn more about the topic area, and also provide creative input on how the projects are illustrated and communicated.
