ORGANIZATION: Insight Housing

Each weekday, except Wednesday, we serve a free, nutritious meal to around 100 members of the community who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness.

We are currently looking for volunteers to work regular shifts for the fall months from September through November.

Available shifts are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:45pm-5:00pm. You can sign up for one or more days of the week.

Community Meal is served at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1744 University Ave, Berkeley, 94703

Volunteer duties include:

  • Setting up tables
  • Plating and serving food
  • Bussing tables
  • Washing dishes
  • Sweeping and mopping floors
  • General cleanup and breakdown

Since 1970, Insight Housing (formerly Berkeley Food & Housing Project) has provided a comprehensive range of housing, food, and support services to help those in need move from homelessness into a safe and affordable home of their own. The Hope Center is the flagship of Insight Housing and offers a wide range of housing and support for people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Our many volunteers offer their time, energy and talents to make our work possible.
