This position will assist Preschool Playdates program staff in the coordination, delivery and ongoing development for weekly (every Tuesday morning) events at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Preschool Playdates features play-based activities that encourage social learning. The intern will be responsible for providing support to Preschool Playdates program staff such as prepping materials, assisting with the management and/or acting as a facilitator for the weekly events and the ongoing development/improvement of activities.

The Preschool Playdates Program Assistant is responsible for supporting the Science Museum of Minnesota's Preschool Playdates program every Tuesday morning. Playdates are specific opportunities for visitors 5 and under that feature play-based activities that encourage social learning. Preschool Playdates features experiences that encourage open-ended exploration. While all Preschool Playdates activities have a basis in science, the focus of the program is the experience, with less emphasis on communicating the science content and more emphasis on encouraging play and discussion.

Facilitate the Preschool Playdates program during operation to help sustain and ensure success of the program.

  • Select activities for volunteers to facilitate on a weekly basis.
  • Gather supplies and prep materials needed to support the success of volunteer facilitation.
  • Set up signage for activities
  • Oversee and support volunteers including problem solving, resource management and general supervision.
  • Act as a liaison between volunteers and program manager.
