My New Red Shoes helps homeless and low-income children look and feel confident as they start the school year by providing them with the gift of new clothing and shoes. Founded in 2006, My New Red Shoes has impacted the lives of more than 45,000 homeless and low-income children.

We are in need of packing our gift bags with new shoes and a back to school welcome card. We will be packing these shoes for Oakland Unified School District students. We will be serving approximately 1500 students this year. We will be hosting this event sometime in September 2018.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with My New Red Shoes- Oakland.

Mission Statement

My New Red Shoes (MNRS) works to improve the quality of life and well-being of children and youth experiencing economic hardship. At the core of our work is the belief that every child deserves to live a healthy and productive life.

Description

Children living in poverty confront many hardships, but the stress and impact of hot having their basic needs met is consistently cited by researchers, educators, and child welfare advocates as a major barrier to children's healthy development and success in school. By mobilizing resources and advocating for children and families experiencing economic hardship, MNRS actively works to reduce the impact of income inequality. Since 2006, MNRS has connected more than 100,000 local children and their families to resources and supports that boost quality of life, provide stability, strengthen well-being, and cultivate a sense of belonging.
