ORGANIZATION: Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland

We are looking for volunteer mentors to empower young girls to embrace a healthy, active lifestyle!

This group mentoring program encourages physical activity, healthy eating and the development of a positive self-image among girls age 11 - 14.

The Go Girls! Program runs in selected Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, Delta, Richmond and Tri-Cities (Coquitlam, Port-Coquitlam, Port Moody) schools for girls in grades 6, 7 or 8 for two hours after school (typically 3:00 - 5:00pm) for 8 sessions. Each term, led by female volunteer mentors between the ages of 19 to 30, incorporates fun and educational activities to stimulate mentor-participant relationship building as well as group discussions about healthy living and emotional, social and cultural issues.

We are currently accepting applications for our Winter Term which runs for 8 weeks from the week of January 13th, 2020 to the week of March 13th, 2020. Mandatory training on January 4th, 2020.

We encourage applicants to submit applications as soon as possible as we process applications on a first come, first serve basis. Please submit your application for our Winter term no later than December 16th, 2020.

Description

Since 1960, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland is a non-profit organization who has been enabling life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people.

Our experienced caseworkers carefully match Little Sisters with female identifying, transgender or non-binary adult mentors (19 years+) who help young people realize their full potential, avoid risky behaviour and make healthy choices. We match girls, self-identifying, transgender or non-binary children and youth between the ages of 7 to 17 with a positive female role model, through our three mentoring programs. Our Big Sisters, Study Buddy and Go Girls Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds Program.
