Help us Build a Dementia Friendly Community!

Approximately 89,000 Minnesotans age 65+ are living with Alzheimer’s. It is projected that Alzheimer’s cases and other Dementia-related disorders will double by 2050. Dementia Friends is a 60-90 minute educational session designed for any community organization, business, religious institution or other community setting. The Dementia Friends program helps organizations heighten their members’ awareness of dementia and equips them to respond warmly and effectively when serving people living with dementia and their care partners. Ultimately, it is about taking action to create an environment that is safe, respectful, and welcoming for people living with dementia.

We are seeking 10 volunteers to support our efforts to deliver Dementia Friends sessions to groups and organizations throughout the Twin Cities community. Preparing to become a Dementia Champion will require only a brief (1,1/2 - 2-hour) training session. Once completed, you will join our cohort of qualified presenters, and then scheduled at your convenience to deliver the program in the community. While not required, personal experience with people with dementia is helpful. Most importantly, we are seeking volunteers who have a passion for educating the community about this disease, and who want to make an impact by making their community more dementia friendly.
