The Lexington Historical Society is seeking volunteers to welcome visitors into the historic Hancock-Clarke House and Munroe Tavern. The greeter will be responsible for taking and selling tickets and answering questions. Hours and days are flexible as the houses are open seven days a week.
Volunteering with the Lexington Historical Society is rewarding and fun. In addition to being a great way to get involved in the community, our volunteers are part of an organization of national significance. Volunteers will be invited to special events, updated on developments within the organization, and they enjoy free admission to all three historic house museums: Hancock-Clarke House, Munroe Tavern, and Buckman Tavern.
Students, teachers, retirees, and anyone with an interest in history are encouraged to apply.
The Historic Houses open April 13, 2019 and close for the season in October 2019

Mission Statement
The Society’s Mission The mission of the Lexington Historical Society is to be a premier interpreter of the events of April 1775, presented through our three historic sites - the Hancock-Clarke House, Buckman Tavern, and Munroe Tavern. We serve as faithful steward of all of the town’s history through time, managing an in-depth repository of Lexington documents, maps, artistic renderings and photographs from the Town’s founding in 1713 to the present time. We offer year-round history programming for all ages at our historic sites and our Lexington Depot headquarters, including curriculum-based programs on Colonial life and the American Revolution for school groups at all levels.
Description
The Lexington Historical Society, founded in 1886, provides public tours of Lexington’s historic sites that played important roles in the Battle of Lexington: the Hancock-Clarke House, Paul Revere’s destination; Buckman Tavern, the gathering place of the Lexington militia; and Munroe Tavern, British field office and hospital on April 19, 1775. The Society provides year-round history programming for all ages. The Society has an extensive archives of Lexington history through the years, as well as rich collections of objects spanning the years from the Town’s incorporation in 1713 to the present.
