Loneliness increases the risk of heart disease by 29% and the risk of a stroke by 32%. Lonely elders are twice as likely to have dementia as those who don’t report being lonely. Loneliness and social isolation can be as harmful to our health as obesity and smoking. Help mitigate that loneliness by becoming a Friendly Visitor and provide connection and companionship to our more isolated seniors. Our Friendly Visitor program matches volunteers with older adults with similar interests and passions to meet on an ongoing basis. Activities can include talking over tea or coffee, visiting museums or going on walks together. Our Brighton Campus has many residents that speak Russian and Chinese so we encourage Russian and Chinese speakers to apply!
