About Maybelle Center for Community: Maybelle Center for Community believes that nobody deserves to live in isolation and that every person has inherit worth and dignity. We live out our beliefs, by providing programs and opportunities for people experiencing poverty to nurture their mind, body and soul. We serve nearly 500 individuals every year within Old Town and Downtown Portland. Maybelle Center has a robust Development department that works to increase awareness of Maybelle Center and raise the monetary resources to fund our work. A key component of our fundraising efforts is our annual event, Hope in the Heart of Portland.
Volunteer Opportunity: Every year, we recruit over a dozen volunteers to assist with a variety of duties at Hope in the Heart of Portland. This year’s event will take place on: Saturday, September 16, 2016 at the Nines Hotel (525 SW Morrison St, Portland, OR 97204). The venue is easily accessible using the Max Line. Volunteers need to arrive at 4:45 for a brief orientationand will be done with event help no later than 10pm. Dinner and travel reimbursement (up to $5) is included.
This year, we are needing help with guest registration (best for volunteers comfortable with computers), greeting at the venue and helping to sell raffle items during the cocktail reception time.

Mission Statement
Together, we can disrupt social isolation and build a thriving Portland for all of us! CONNECTION IS A BASIC HUMAN NEED We all need people in our lives that "get us." People who accept us for who we are and share our joys and sorrows during the inevitable twists and turns of life.
Description
Since 1991, we’ve built a more vibrant Portland by collaborating with residents in more than 30 buildings in the downtown area who face barriers to meaningful connection - so more of us can experience a healthy, connected life and contribute to a thriving Portland.
What we do!
Home Visits: Pairs of community volunteers visit folks living on the margins and at risk for social isolation (typically weekly).
Support Services: One-on-one meetings with members to navigate barriers to independence and stability.
Spiritual Support: Spiritual support and memorials appropriate to each member’s faith or religious tradition.
Community Room: Our community room is a comfortable space for members to gather during the day. Affectionately called "their living room."
Low Income Housing: Macdonald West has 42 affordable studio apartments for people who earn 60% or less of the median family income.
Assisted Living: Macdonald Residence has 54 rooms and is one of the only 100% Medicaid facilities in the nation.
